And so on and so forth.
It's like brainwashing - if you hear it long enough, you will start to believe it.
It appears an innocuous enough statement, and the statements above are the mainstay of rigorous speeding law enforcement.
But are they really true and do they help to produce a safer environment for us all?
It's my belief that the constant pressure to reduce speed limits is merely a tool to make all drivers liable for fines just by the act of getting in their car.
We are the cash cow and we are being milked.
One incident recently got me thinking about this whole subject.
Driving along the motorway, I pulled into the third lane doing a completely insane 70-75 mph as I was catching the vehicle in front which was dawdling along in the middle lane at around 55-60, the said lame-brain then did the usual trick of accelerating as I came along side and awoke him from his slumbers.
Not wishing to be bothered with pointless jockeying for position on a relatively quiet stretch of Motorway, I contemplated easing off and dropping in behind him at a safe distance. Trouble was that Tran-Van man in his double Axle had now appeared and closed up to about 5 foot from my rear bumper, headlights blazing.
Now, I was being pushed downhill towards Gatso at over 75, On-another-planet car driver, three feet to the left, Gorilla Man 3 feet behind and central reservation to my right. A possible 3 points and 40 quid seemed less painful than prolonged discussion with the fire brigade and ambulance man, so its foot down, scoot to 85ish, pull across Idiot number 1 and into empty left lane, stab on brakes down to 75 hoping I'm far enough away from hopefully unloaded camera, not to get caught and watch other idiots steam past camera at 85+

Originally introduced as a deterrent, they've now become little more than yet another way of fleecing the motorist. Why? Well just take a look at our favorite piece of technological wizardry: If the cameras were supposed to be deterrents, then they'd be prominently displayed, and painted in luminous orange and white stripes – just as they are in the Netherlands. Instead, UK police forces insist on painting them drab greens, greys and browns, and then secreting them around blind bends, behind trees, behind buildings and road signs and so forth. Clearly, if you can't see the object, then it's not a deterrent. It's prime reason for being there is to generate revenue for the police, local councils and the government. How come every do-gooding kaftan wearer in the world thinks thieves, rapists and murderers should be educated more and punished less, but all motorists should be punished, punished and punished some more.
The latest government rhetoric talks about zero tolerance of speeders. Jesus, that kind of language normally comes from right wing minor American politicians, when talking about drugs and gangsters.
The current campaign against speeding is just the beginning of the brainwashing. They'll tell us all the distorted "truth" till we all start to believe it, then impose larger and larger fines on more and more marginal cases (like 71mph on an open motorway) with full public support because we are saving lives??.
In reality it's a tax imposed on easy targets such as Mr. Average-Law-Abiding-Citizen, who will meekly pay his fine and apologise to the judge for recklessly doing 31 mph.
Just contrast this policy with the brilliant
scam scheme for solving car crime. Does this zero tolerance
involve large fine for the scumbags who nick your car, or life imprisonment,
or loss of a limb? - Nope it involves us all adding a 150 quids' worth of immobilisors
to our cars just to get an MOT certificate. Your car gets nicked and its your
fault and it happens so often we are all going to have to pay for it.
So what they are saying here is "Scumbag lamebrain is blameless for nicking your car, joyriding at 100mph down backalleys and killing a couple of people in passing. It's all your fault for letting him steal it in the first place."
