An anti-theft warning device, many different types available. Make sure you know how the system on your proposed purchase works, particularly if it's one of the more complex after-market fitments, so you can cope when it goes wrong.
Alarms are sometimes linked to remote central locking systems, and may not arm themselves if you lock the car by key rather than by using the remote.
Modern alarms can be both passive and audible. the passive type just flashes the indicators without noise. The audible would be noisy and generally trigger of the hazard lights and maybe flash the vehicle headlights.
After market alarms vary in price and some insurance companies will give better
premiums if certain types are fitted it is worth enquiring before fitting for convenience.
