Front fog lamps or driving lamps are not mandatory lights un the
UK. But if fitted must work.
Years ago the aftermarket was filled with items such as Cibie driving lamps and
many more aftermarket items to make you car that little better. However with the
modern cars being fitted with many more features as standard the fog lamp is now
more common.
Effectively the fog lamp only comes into its own under extreme
driving conditions.
When used the most common types are very high output, they are powered by a
high output halogen bulb and are focussed through a lens to produce a
narrow and specific light pattern. Generally straight forward and low. This is
effective in improving visibility in dense fog and rain.
