Remote operated fuel cap release is a either a manual lever attached by wire to the fuel flap, or a electric switch operating and electronic solenoid.
When operated from inside the car it opens the fuel cap for access to the fuel filler.
Cars fitted with this device benefit from having a secure fuel filler cap which is easily opened from inside the car giving you a second or so more warmth from inside your car on a cold day before filling your fuel tank. or you can keep your keys in your ignition to listen to you car entertainment system whilst filling your car.
The only downside is when it breaks so does your car. some makes however do fit an emergency rip cord in the boot area for those groundhog days that happen to all of us from time to time.
