Split rear seats were generally only originally fitted to hatch back and estate cars their use giving the ability to carry goods and passengers in the rear.
Manufacturers originally produced 50-50 and later 60-40 split to the rear seats.
Nearly all split rear seats are now 60-40 allowing you to carry one or two rear passengers as well as luggage.
Split rear seats are now fitted to most body styles including saloons, coupes and many more.
The usefulness is outstanding allowing conversion the average cars carry capacity into a much greater volume.
In lowering the base of the rear seats and making the rear headrests easy to remove, a flat carrying surface is easily achieved which in turn protects the car interior from dirt or damage when using it for carrying loads or general refuse as is probably the case for most of us.
