I can't help but agree with all your musings, but I would like to point out
one fact which you appear to have overlooked:

They're absolute shite on snow......!

I suspect this applies to other cars with the same width tyres, but it's
rather annoying to get stuck on the slightest of inclines and watch fiestas,
astras etc go climbing by.  Power steering and wide tyres (and possibly the
wight distribution of the diesel estate) make white-covered roads a no-no.

Beware the track-rod ends as well.  They're NOT the same as a golf hatch,
and when I needed one, were quite difficult to come by.

Other than that, a fine car.
