NERD COMMENT:
The major difference between the 525 TD and 525 TDS is that the TDS has an intercooler for the Turbo, and so cools the air entering more effectively, allowing the turbo to compress the air to a greater degree (cooler air compresses more easily and faster under pressure) and thus make more horsepower on boost.
OWNER COMMENT:
A 525 TDS when strapped to the auto box is not going to set the world alight, but improves with a Superchip conversion (@£400 fiited) and suffers no loss in fuel economy (ave 37 mpg) just masses of extra pick-up, more low down torque and a vastly improved 60 to 80 MPH movement. You're right about needing a Sunroof, though Aircon is infinitely better for most owners and was available. Servicing on time is absolute - you'll want your TDS to last along time, because there is nothing in the market to touch it for the money. No wonder they are so sought after!

response to the review of the 525:
Where’s
the Omega gone? I have it! Since I have no sheepskin coat or medallion to wear
round my neck I thought it best to opt for the more modern lines of the Omega,
rather than the backstreet credibility of the ageing 5 series.
J
if not too cheeky!
